Mounting evidence against Elvin Penner in passport scandal is uncovered

We’ll get to the recall process in a few, but first the evidence. According to the PM, it was enough for him to act immediately, and he has the unanimous agreement of his Cabinet who flanked him this morning at the press conference. So it must have been damning indeed. But we can only speculate, since neither the PM nor the Minister of Immigration Godwin Hulse was prepared to shed any light at all on that evidence. The media and public will apparently for now at least have to remain in the dark as to how many nationality certificates, passports and visas for that matter were illegally issued. Still, while Hulse was mum on the immigration straws which broke the camel’s back, he did say that all the evidence he found will be turned over to the Police.

“What I can properly say at this time is that we continue with this investigation. It’s a large amount of files we have to look at it very carefully to be absolutely sure that we don’t disenfranchise those persons that rightfully obtained their nationality certificates and their passports, but select and deselect those who didn’t do so or who were facilitated in not doing so. That’s basically where we are at this point in time. I do not want to be pressed on the details of names, etc, because I will not give them out; I cannot. I don’t want to be pressed on the actions that had happened because again we don’t want to try the case in the public’s domain. What I can say is that we continue this process; we will instruct the director to handle all documentation she has that we uncovered to the relevant authorities—meaning the police and other authorities responsibly for this.”
