Inmate gets more years added to his sentence

Story PictureAnd in the courts, an inmate will spend additional time at the Hattieville Prison after being found guilty of Drug Trafficking by Magistrate Rachel Montejo. Forty-four year old Rudolph Alexander Bennett was convicted for over half a pound of weed stashed inside his boots. That’s another conviction to add to the long list Bennett has accumulated since 1996. He is presently serving a five year jail term for a theft conviction and was expected to be released within a year. Today, however, he got three more years to add to his prison term. On August twenty-fifth 2008, just after noon, Bennett, who was a prison trustee, was doing plumbing work at the prison grounds. He had just exited the store room and was heading back into his cell area, when he was stopped in a routine check. Prison Officer, Valentine Tablada, who conducted the search on Bennett, testified he found four parcels of the drug hidden in his boots. In his defense, Bennett who gave an unsworn statement from the dock, denied ever being in possession of the weed and had nothing to say in mitigation. Bennett has fifteen other convictions for twenty-three offences ranging from aggravated assault, to theft and possession of controlled drugs.
