Jewellery thief remanded to prison
A man accused of breaking into a Belize City home and stealing almost nine thousand dollars worth of jewellery has been remanded to Hattieville prison. On May twenty-eighth, Arlet Gomez reported to police that her house had been burglarized. Police soon detained forty-four year old Sidney Collins when he attempted to pawn the jewellery at J. E. C. in Belize City. Today, Collins appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord where he was arraigned for one count of burglary and one count of handling stolen goods. Collins pled not guilty to the burglary charge, but admitted his guilt on the handling count. He told the court that he had bought the items form another man for fifty dollars. The prosecution requested that bail be denied and the court agreed. Collins’ next appearance is set for Friday, June ninth.
