Mother accused of killing three of her four children appears in court
The woman accused of killing her three children on April twenty-seventh, 2013, appeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court today for a preliminary inquiry into the matter. Twenty-two year old Felicia Chen spent almost five months in the psychiatric ward at the Belmopan Hospital before being remanded to the Belize Central Prison on September seventeenth. On April twenty-seventh twenty-two year old Felicia Chen allegedly walked her four children into the sea at Belizean Beach and held three of them underwater until they were dead. The fourth child ran away and summoned help, which arrived in time to save Chen, who was reportedly trying to drown herself. Today Chen arrived at court in the prison bus without special police escort which means she is not being hidden from the cameras. Attorney at the Director of Public Prosecution’s Office, Alford Humes, presented evidence in the form of a bundle which contained statements from Chen’s remaining daughter, police officers, Dr. Mario Estradabran and other persons who were involved in the case. Also handed over were documentary exhibits such as birth and death certificates of the dead children, post mortem reports of the three children, pictures and a copy of a protection order. When asked if they had any alibi witness to present to the court, Moore replied no. Chen was committed to stand trial in the April Session of the Supreme Court.
