Former employees want individual compensation

Don Gillett

The group is seeking individual compensation from BWS since it is unlikely that they will be reinstated if the court finds the company guilty of wrongful termination.  Their lawyer, Senior Counsel Antoinette Moore, also echoes the sentiment of the court, that the matter should be settled between both parties.

Don Gillett, Former Employee, BWS

“We are looking at compensation because it would, we feel that based on the actions this far, to single out, we were handpicked by this management for whatever reason so you could imagine the atmosphere if we go back now, having sued the company, having been terminated for nothing at all, then suing the company and going back there.  It doesn’t make much sense to us so we’re just seeking compensation so we could move on.”

Isani Cayetano

“What is your lawyer saying?  I know she’s absent today but what advice or counsel has she given you with regards to progress of this matter?”

Don Gillett

“She is saying the same thing the judge is saying, we need to settle.  The quicker the better, so to speak, we need to settle.  Just because the company seems to have access to the funds they would want to stretch it out for I don’t know, whatever reason, but we are willing to go all the way.  We didn’t do anything wrong and the judge or the court that will be proven in the court.”

Belize Water Services Ltd., we are told, has until the end of the month to resolve the matter out of court.

This kind of wrongful termination and chanciness in the work place happens all over. Not only BWS. Its even worst in the private sector where if you don’t give in to sexual harassment, you get fired with the least of excuses. Try going to labor office and most of them are on the take from the rich bosses. BWS needs to pay these people so that many others being wrongfully terminated may realize that there is another way other than the labor officers where they can get justice. Our lawyers need to help the situation too by offering their services as free if they can’t get the settlement for their clients. After all, its our taxes that sent a lot of them to pursue their law careers.
