Body in river looks like mafia hit
It is possible that police may never be able to identify a murder victim found over the weekend. The remains were so badly decomposed that the corpse had to be buried on site. Around ten on Sunday morning, the body, believed that of a Hispanic male, was found floating in the Belize River in an area known as Saturday Creek just outside of Belmopan. But this was no victim of a swimming accident. When the corpse was pulled from the water the dead man’s feet were bound together and another rope was tied around his waist and attached to a cement block. Police say because there were no visible signs of violence on the body they suspect the killer or killers may have tied up their victim and then threw his body into the water, leaving him to die a cruel death by drowning. Authorities would not go into the specifics of their investigation but say that they have been following a number of leads that will hopefully lead to the victim’s identification and eventually exactly what transpired. Medical examination revealed that the crime may be five days old. If you can assist the police call the nearest station or Crime Stoppers at 0-800-922-TIPS.
