Workshop held to improve the use of IBIS

The introduction of the Integrated Ballistics Identification System, IBIS, in October 2012 provided the National Forensic Science Service a new means of solving gun-related crimes at a crucial time when such offenses were rampant.  That donation by the Canadian government also included training for personnel from the department.  While illegal activities of that nature have reduced considerably, improvement in the use of IBIS remains ongoing.  As part of the guarantee to ensure proper maintenance and use of the system, senior instructor Petar Zenovich of Forensic Technology, recently held a three-day workshop which included members of the Firearms Unit.  IBIS is a modern approach to collecting, storing, and processing final reports on ballistic evidence to aid law enforcement agencies in investigation, prosecution and conviction of persons involved in gun-related crimes.  The National Forensic Science Service, since establishing its database has been commended for its achievement in assimilating the system into the function of the department.
