Two injured in separate shootings
Two Belize district residents are tonight recovering from gunshot wounds following separate shooting incidents over the weekend. Thirty-three year old Eric Savery has reported to police that he was driving to his mile six home on the Northern Highway just after midnight on Monday when he realized he was being followed by a darkly painted car. Savery says an occupant of the other vehicle pulled out a gun and shot several times at his car. During the gunfire, Savery lost control of the vehicle and ran off the highway. With Savery still sitting in the ditch, his attackers apparently walked towards him and tried to finish him off. Two bullets caught Savery, one in his chest and a second in his right foot. The victim is claiming that he doesn’t know why anyone would want to shoot him.
Meanwhile, police are also looking for the passengers of a heavily tinted green Nissan who have been implicated in a second shooting. According to seventeen year old Jamil Chavarria, around seven on Saturday night he was walking on Kraal Road when the SUV slowed down alongside him … the rear window was lowered … and suddenly what looked like an AK47 emerged from inside. Chavarria says three shots were fired. Two shots found their mark, one in his thigh and another in the foot. As in the other incident, Chavarria has reported that he does not know who shot him or why.
