Chang attends his first City Council meeting since returning to the jewel

Darrell Bradley

Former Deputy Mayor Eric Chang was thrown into the mix of the immigration scandal involving the illegal sale of a Belizean passport to imprisoned South Korean businessman Won Hong Kim. Chang was in Taiwan on an official visit when the scandal broke in September and after his name was called, he remained in Taiwan for an extended period returning to Belize only two weeks ago. Well he attended his first city council meeting this afternoon.  While the councilor took part in the discussions, he remains without a portfolio, following his demotion in mid-October.  News Five spoke with Mayor Darrell Bradley today, who initially told the media that a meeting with Chang upon his return was mandatory.  That sit-down has taken place and according to the mayor, Chang has reaffirmed his commitment to the Belize City Council despite rumors of his involvement in the scandal.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“Explain to him that I was dissatisfied in the manner than he comported himself. Being away from the jurisdiction and not being in contact especially given the fact that we were in the throes of an infrastructure project. And given the fact that he is deputy mayor so that when I leave the country he is the one who should run the city and I was not comfortable with the way he dealt with that situation. We tried to contact him and we couldn’t contact him, he expressed his regret in how that entire thing evolved. He expressed what I wanted to hear his firm commitment in continue in office and discharging his duties effectively as an elected representative. I indicated clearly to him as I did indicate to the people of the public that he will remain without portfolio and he will remain not deputy mayor; that position has been removed and given to somebody else. So he is still a councilor he still has obligations to his office, to represent on the council, the views of the member s of the public. He came to the meeting today; we met for about two and a half hours and he participated actively in the meeting and I expect that he will continue to the end of his term that he will discharge his functions effectively as a councilor. He indicated to me that this is what he wanted, he gave me a firm commitment  and he showed up at the meeting today.”

Lol! Spoken like a true lawyer. Chang’s first sit down should have been with police officials. But this is a banana republic paid for by Chang et al. So, he gets to sit in a disposable seat just in case things reach critical mass or the cover-up collapses. As for the good mayor, he is playing it smart. Even in defeat, there are winners. I’ll bet he and Faber must be giggling their butts off. I would not get too comfortable if I were they. They all took tainted campaign money to get where they are. God help us!

Eric Change should have acted like Castro.
Demand a booty call, and squack that he did not commit a crime.
He could have come back sooner and made some booty runs with Castro.
A drive by the Taiwanese embassy could have been a quick score.

That is the biggest bunch of BULLS^*( I have ever heard. I have known Darrel Bradley from childhood and initially I thought he was honorable but the way he handle this situation darrel integrity is no better than those incarserated. It begs the question was the proceeds of the PASSPORT for kim going to be split up among all UDP ministers and councilors? Eric Chang should have been arested for (PI) private INVESTIGATION by police and stay in temporary detention locked up for 48 hours as the law prescribes, If this was an ordinary citizen that would be the action taken by police. I was not surprise to hear eric walse right back into city council. I knew he would show up when they think this PASSPORT issue die off but so UDP think Belizean see your true color now and will have the last say election day.

I thaught he gave his commitment when he was elected and later appointed deputy mayor. So he is giving his word again and we are accepting that? At this pioint what value does his words have? Anyone who goes AWAL is usually fired. They just don’t walk back to the fold and say sorry and get their job back!

  6. ceo says:

This is serious! Is this all the law allows: SORRY?
