Shot by cops, accused seawall robber is charged

Story PictureHis appearance was delayed by a bullet wound to the leg … but also charged today in Belize City Magistrate’s Court was nineteen year old Michael Trapp. He appeared this afternoon to be formally arraigned on two counts of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery following an attack against a young couple on Marine Parade on Saturday night. The victims, two students from Belize City, were standing at the seawall near Craig Street when two men held them up at gunpoint and robbed them of their valuables. The young man was then ordered to strip naked and jump into the sea. It is then alleged that Trapp’s accomplice, identified by police as twenty two year old Derrick Sampson, proceeded to rape the woman. When the cops showed up at the crime scene, a shootout ensued and Trapp was injured in his left leg. Sampson was soon arrested after he was spotted in the vicinity of the Tourist Village dressed in only a pair of wet boxers.
