Special CWU convention to be held to elect new officers
Outgoing president Antonio Gonzalez says he’s pleased that the membership of the union has chosen Matura-Shepherd, whom he believes will help to return the CWU to its glory days. Similarly, General Secretary James McFoy, whose post will become vacant as of this Saturday when a general assembly will be held, says that they will continue to support the union and assist in anyway necessary.
Antonio Gonzalez, Outgoing President, Christian Workers Union
“On Saturday, having this special convention to elect new officers, I only hope that, and I echo some of the sentiments and words of Sister Matura that we need strong people within the leadership of the Christian Workers Union and I trust that come Saturday we will have those leaders in place. CWU will maintain its position in the society of Belize. CWU will get stronger and CWU will continue to defend the fundamental rights and freedom of workers on a whole. not only our membership. And what I have heard is that there is a trend whereby the new leadership will look more towards engaging the entire workforce in Belize and to protect their rights and freedom. So in that sense, for myself, I have nothing but praise for the workers and membership of the Christian Workers Union.”
While Matura-Shepherd’s presidency is in place, a convention to be held this Saturday will see the election of new executives.
