Attorney says clients want an apology

Kareem Musa

Each of the eighteen claimants is to be paid a portion of the total judgment, to be divided according to the evidence each presented. Those who accused the officers of abuse and brutality leading to injury and false imprisonment for sixty-two hours will be paid some twelve thousand dollars each and the others, who could only allege false imprisonment, will be paid five thousand dollars.  But Musa says they want more than money…they want an apology.

Kareem Musa

“It came up at the meeting I had with the claimants that yes it is fine and all that they will be paid this money, but what about an apology? What about an apology from the GSU? Don’t they at least deserve an apology for that? That vicious attack for no reason; that unwarranted attack upon them. And I wholeheartedly agree with them that they do deserve an apology. I don’t know if that would be forthcoming, but I think that would be the honorable thing for them to do.”

Musa told us that there was no investigation of the events of August twenty-sixth and no discipline of the officers involved, though two of his clients, Carlos Abraham and Gerald “Shiny” Tillett, were charged for using insulting words, assault and throwing a missile. Those charges were eventually dismissed for lack of prosecution. Final payments of a total of two hundred and five thousand dollars are to be settled next week.
