Special Envoy speaks on the passing of amendment to criminal code
On Thursday, the second and third reading of amendment two to the criminal code was passed in the House of Representatives. The amendment had a rocky start because some sectors felt that the decriminalization of sodomy was being sneaked in through the amendment, even before a ruling from the Supreme Court on that issue has been delivered. But in the House on Thursday, the amendment got support from across the aisle. The new piece of legislation imposes harsher penalties for crimes against children and redefines the types of crimes making it more relevant to present day circumstances. The bill was spearheaded by the Ministry of Human Development and Social Transformation through the Special Envoy for Women and Children, Kim Simplis Barrow.

“It is really a great feeling. I had to be there to witness it for myself. This is something that we’ve been working on for such a long time—the lobbying effort and being back and forth with the SOLGEN office and consulting with the judges and making sure that they have a major input before it really went to consultation. We consulted with them to put the initial draft together. So everyone who was so supportive and giving us feedback and letting us know that this could be improved; it was great work. It was great to see everyone coming together: the bar association, all these different N.G.O.s, the national Committee for Families and Children coming together and ensuring that this bill gets passed. It is exactly that; not loosing focus and really knowing what it is that you are trying to accomplish. And it was always about the children, it was never about a hidden agenda. And I think the consultations went really well under the leadership of the honorable Patrick Faber and again there were so many people who were able to explain what this bill was about and to put aside all of the perceptions that were wrong really. I mean Judith Alpuche who has been working on this for such a long time and just really the focusing and saying we have to make this happen; we have to do whatever it is in our power to make it happen.”

“Were there any changes made to the initial draft?”

“Well I think it’s just the language and the cleaning up of the bill really.”
All of a sudden she pretends to be interested in the abuseo and murders going on in this country well 4 years into her husband running the country and after 1000 murders I think it’s a little late to pretend to care when in fact her husband himself IS supporting all these murders he is a traitor a thief and a murderer. Guan judas guan.
Mrs. Ali BaBa_rrow is this new interest of yours, just another ploy to rake in the big bucks?
Before we forget, allow me to ask, how much monies did you rake in on your last kick? Do you have audited financial statements to show how the financial donations were used?
Why is your modus operandi always the same? You come out of nowhere and your heart bleats for a specific cause. Months later, the money campaign begins, then the money disappears. You lie low for a couple months…………. then it is time for a new cause.
A good move. Lets review and remove more of the out dated, redundant and irrelevant laws of Belize.
