Acting ComPol Miguel Segura shares Christmas Message

Police officers have come under serious scrutiny recently after criminal allegations were made against them. This week, PC Dayton Sacasa was arraigned on charges of extortion. Days before three officers were charged for theft after shaking down a citizen and just before that a senior officer was charged for murder. Some would say it hasn’t exactly been the best year for the Police, and Acting Commissioner of Police Miguel Segura admits that in every barrel in any department there will be rotten fruit. But there are many men and women in uniform who consistently do the right thing and go above and beyond in service. Segura had a Christmas message for those officers, and one for the community.

“My message to my officers publicly, thanking them for their job, the long hours, and to continue because without them we cannot make that change. These are the people who are on the ground. These are the people facing the public every day. My message to them is that this is a noble profession, and you are paid with many blessings when you do right thing…things come your way from different people in different manners. So to them I say a big thank you from the senior officers at the Eastern Division and on behalf of the Commissioner also…I wish all of them a Merry Christmas, to their families also, and wish that the Lord grant them their heart’s desires and brings more unity and happiness for 2014. And my message to the community is that with them we can make changes. So we are here to work along with them and so for 2014 we envision that it can be much better. Change can happen.”

As part of an expanded program of community outreach and interaction, Police will be having a variety show on Saturday night at the Institute of Cultural Arts. All are welcome.
