…And introduces disenfranchised voters
As we told you, the P.U.P. came with substance to back up their fire and fury. The party claims that after just a cursory examination, they are prepared to object to one hundred and forty of one hundred and fifty-six rejections. With judicial review on the horizon, the P.U.P. weren’t shown all the goods, just enough to make the point. In fact, two of the persons whose signatures were struck out were at Independence Hall today. Cira Miro’s signature was rejected because it did not match that on her records at the Elections and Boundaries Office, and George Manzanero was rejected because that office says he is not registered to vote at all.

George Manzanero, Cayo Northeast Voter
“Well I feel very bad about that because I dah noh no alien; I dah Belizean. So I think them people there are crazy people when they do that. So I have all the right; that’s why I come today to make sure I show the people that I am a Belizean and I noh feel ashamed of that. I have to support the P.U.P. because they do the right thing.”
Mike Rudon
“Mister Manzanero, you could also tell us the situation weh happen with your mother? I hear they take her off of the list as well?”
“Yes, about my mother, when dehn people come with my mother, my mother get wah lee frighten right because they said they will take away her land if she…I mean dehn lie. But my mother tell me she signed the petition, she signed it and that is why I bring the ID card make I show ahn that dah true weh she tell me. So I think it is a problem with them people there when dehn do dehn things.”
Cira Miro, Cayo Northeast Voter
“I initialed it CM because I can’t right with my hand and I right it with my left hand, so it didn’t come out the way it is in the ID card. So I can’t vote the way I signed the ID. So I just initial right now. Since I get in this accident it is numb, only with the left hand, so I initial it CM.”
Mike Rudon
“How does it make you feel that they would strike you out, like they are disenfranchising you as a voter?”
“Well I feel, as a Belizean, I feel disappointed. I was voicing my opinion and my opinion got rejects. So that’s the way I feel.”
Today the media was shown at least six clear instances of signatures which were rejected by the Elections and Boundaries Office because they say the petitioners were not registered voters. In all those instances, the names of those persons were on the voters list provided by the very same Elections and Boundaries Department. We’ll have more on this story in tomorrow’s newscast.

>as a Belizean, I feel disappointed
what is new?
Just going to get worse. When the international tourism industry figures out how dangerous it is to travel to Belize, the tourist economy will nose dive. Anybody in their right mind will travel elsewhere.
Keep repeating until everyone believes it, “we are prosperous because corruption is good for Belize”
Tired of that, too hard to remember?
Try, “We laugh when the government screws the other guy”
