Wanted man, Kevin Manzanero, caught by police; another remain at large
On Christmas Eve, a man was gunned down during an attempted robbery in the Kontiki Area in the Cayo District. The death of Fredy Lopez launched an intensive manhunt for two suspects identified as Kevin ‘Midget’ Manzanero and Alex ‘Cat’ Reid. Because of a similarity in MOs, the Police believed that those two men were also responsible for a spate of robberies in the district throughout the month of December. But now one of those men is in Police custody, or at least he will be when he recovers from chop wounds inflicted during another alleged home invasion. ‘Midget’ Manzanero apparently attempted to invade the wrong home on the Bullet Tree Road, and ended up running for his life before going to the San Ignacio Hospital for treatment. That’s where San Ignacio Police caught up to him.
Inspector Reymundo Reyes, Deputy Commander, San Ignacio Police
“Yesterday sometime after midday San Ignacio police was called to the hospital, as information received was that a male person arrived there with multiple chop wounds. The police visited the hospital, emergency room, where on arrival they recognized that the person was on Kevin Manzanero also known as Midget, wanted by police for investigation for questioning in respect to the murder of Mr. Freddy Lopez and other robberies. Information is that he attempted to commit another crime, that of an aggravated burglary, he visited a residence in the Collins Boulevard where he end up the have a struggle with one of the owners of the house and as a result a third party who was inside the house came out with a machete and end up the inflect the chop wounds on him. He is under police we could say detention or custody, presently at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital undergoing treatment. He is in a stable condition.”
Alex ‘Cat’ Reid remains at large, and it is believed that Manzanero was alone at the time of the attempted home invasion.

Congratulations to our law-abiding citizens continuing to take a stand against crime. My only wish is that the home owner had a licensed firearm and was able to shoot the criminal dead instead of only chopping him.
Not a fan of vigilante action, but things are so out of hand in Belize, I am glad to see the citizens are protecting themselves.
