Missing Belmopan taxi driver found dead

Story PictureTaxi driver, James Young, from the nation’s capital died a horrific death. He was stabbed at least seventeen times. His body was discovered some two hundred yards off a feeder road in the vicinity of Pooks Hill Resort located thirteen miles from the Western Highway in the Teakettle Village. He had been missing for some days. But who would want to murder the eighty-two year old man and why? Duane Moody went looking for answers today and has this report.

Duane Moody
“Sometime around four Friday evening, the partially decomposed body of Belmopan taxi-driver, James Young, was discovered somewhere around this area. It is believed that the body was brought here on Tuesday when James went missing. According to the police, Young died from multiple stab wounds.”

Sgt. Ismael Westby, O.C., C.I.B. Belmopan
“The body was found by some people who worked at the Pooks Hill Resort.”

Duane Moody
“I understand that a post mortem was done on the body at the scene? Is that so?”

Sgt. Ismael Westby
“That is true.”

Duane Moody
“What was the cause of death?”

Sgt. Ismael Westby
“The cause of death was certified by Dr. Estradabran, who certified the cause of death as exsanguinations due to multiple stab sounds to the chest and neck area.”

‘Mister Jimmy’ as he was known was last seen by his granddaughter when he delivered food to her at her Cohune Walk home. His son Gilbert, however, says he last saw his father on Monday.

Gilbert Young, Son of Deceased
“I’m grieved and filled with sorrows right now at this moment.”

Duane Moody
“Who could have done something like this sir? What kind of person was your father?”

Gilbert Young
“My father was a very friendly, very easy going and very nice. What they has done to my dad, we the family members leave it in the hands of God and God will deal with the one who done it—every single one that was involved. God knows from they were planning it, God knows and when they were doing it God sees them.”

Duane Moody
“Is there a fear now, yourself as a taxi driver, operating and being vulnerable to people assaulting, attacking and even killing taxi drivers?”

Gilbert Young
“Yes I’m a bit fearful.”

Phillip Young, the brother of the slain taxi driver, who is also in the same line of business says that the murder is senseless.

Phillip Young, Brother or Deceased
“Every morning he came out and he reach here for seven o’clock and by five-thirty he go home. I do the same. I never believe he woulda mi die that way.”

Duane Moody
“And for nothing noh?”

Phillip Young
“Well, according to rumour dehn noh find nothing. Ih use to sell lottery but ih noh sell lottery anymore.”

But while the weapon used to murder Young is still missing, Sergeant Westby says that Young’s Geo Prism taxi was discovered two days after he went missing and is now impounded at the Benque Viejo Police Department.

Sgt. Ismael Westby
“Prior to the finding of Mister Jimmy’s body, we had found the vehicle on the thirtieth of July, 2009 between the borders of Belize and Guatemala at the Western Border.”

Duane Moody
“What is it that police believed to have been the motive behind this recent homicide here in Belmopan?”

Sgt. Ismael Westby
“We believe that the intention was to have possession of his vehicle in order to be sold across to the Guatemalans. The vehicle was recovered by police working in assistance with the Guatemalan counterparts.”

Police have confirmed that they had a suspect detained for questioning, but due to insufficient evidence, the person has been released. Police do, however, believe that more than one person was involved in this recent homicide. Duane Moody, reporting for News Five.

And reports just in to our news room indicate that two brothers from Roaring Creek have been detained in the murder of taxi driver, James Young whose body was found late Friday off Teakettle. Because they are only suspects at this point, their names are being withheld.
