Tourists hit by armed robbers in Pine Ridge
Tourists have once again become victims of crime at the Rio Frio Cave in Cayo’s Mountain Pine Ridge. According to police reports shortly before one on Good Friday afternoon a total of seven visitors accompanied by four tour guides were held up by a heavily armed gang of seven men brandishing assault riffles, handguns and machetes. The guides and tourists were thoroughly searched and under threat of death were relieved of cash, watches, cameras, and jewelry. Internet reports indicate that as many as four separate tour groups may have been robbed. The perpetrators ordered the vehicles to drive off before they slipped off into the surrounding jungle. A similar incident at the cave was reported in July of last year.
