Opposition says government is in crisis and it is ready for elections

Francis Fonseca

The Leader of the Opposition touched on a number of issues of national importance when we spoke with him this morning. Francis Fonseca minced no words as it pertains to the government and the recent scandals that have rocked the Barrow Administration. Fonseca pointed out that the government has a slim majority and to protect his administration, the Prime Minister is putting political interests ahead of national issues. According to Fonseca, the government is in crisis so the Prime Minister needs to call fresh elections.

Francis Fonseca, Leader of the Opposition

“Our system of government, our system of democracy, allows the Prime Minister to call elections at any time. It is something that we in the People’s United Party believe has to be changed. We have advocated a fixed term of office and a set fix election date. And I think that is something that will be good to strengthen Belize’s democracy. But yes, we have to be ready at any time; we have to be ready. There is a flurry of activity as you’ve said on the U.D.P. side and we are also as you know engaged in our conventions and getting our candidates in place and that will be done very shortly. So we are ready; we are ready and prepared, but more importantly, the Belize people, I believe are ready. They are ready for a change of government.”

This Fonseca guy is trying to sell a 3 decades old trick. He is not in for national agenda. He is there for pride, personal gain and whats more, our country needs to experience a mindset change. We are still living in the colonial mode. All of us need a hardcore nationalistic mindset.

  2. Uncle Benji says:

There you go Francis. You are finally showing some audacity. Keep up the verbal attacks on Dean Da Thief Barrow and his band of crooks. Criticize, attack, expose, stir up the nation, insist on elections now.

You wanted to be a leader? This is your moment to shine (even though Uncle Benji sees you as weak). We will support you and the party. You will have our votes and our monies; but you have to remain strong. Fight fire with fire.

If you are going to call elections and also win, you will need tips from Said Musa (ruthless, sanguine, shrewd, self effacing and smart.)

    Go man go!

Yes, and then, 4 more years down the road, we will be clamoring for the UDP to once again step in to put a stop to all the PUP corruptions, and demand some PUP ministers to be placed in jail. Then they will bring up back the corruption of Castro and Penner and others who are still walking around free as a bird 4 years from now. My God man, please stop it. Is there no other PARTY trying to raise up?

  4. LOL says:

You should be more stronger than that. You should do what Dean Barrow had done before, call for civil disobedience. Call on the support of all unions in Belize and concerned Belizeans. Break this habit of corruption. Call for a national shut-down.

“Thousands on Monday blocked roads leading to the heart of Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, in a bid to force out Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and replace her with a transitional government, calling the operation “Bangkok Shutdown.”” <<< You see there that how you get things done.
