N.T.U.C.B. keeping an eye on the passport and visa scandal
Even as the Occupational Health and Safety Bill was been on the front burner for the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, the union today issued a release on another issue over which it is riled up – that is the passport and visa scandal. In a release this evening, the N.T.U.C.B. says that government has not heeded its call for an independent investigation in the immigration scandal which involved the illegal issuance of a Belizean passport to South Korean fugitive, Wan Hong Kim, and the visa hustle in which hundreds of visas were issued to Chinese nationals facilitated by Ministers. The N.T.U.C.B. is further incensed that only public officers are being made to bear the brunt of “the disgraceful national betrayal.” The congress is demanding that the report from the Immigration Department Audit be released. It says that it is profusely perturbed at the stall tactics being employed that will cause the expiration of the statue of limitations which in turn will make it impossible for charges to be levied against the key player, Elvin Penner. Says the N.T.U.C.B. to the government: make the hard inevitable but justifiable political decision and let Penner his slowly-but-surely, surfacing accomplices- Minister Castro, et al, go. No more disgracing our nation and above all, no more covering up.
