Friday show at Bliss raises funds for poets
On Friday, fifteen poets will be joining musicians, dancers and dramatists from across the country in the first ever Lik It Festival. The show, which takes centre stage at the Bliss, is part of a fundraising drive for The Belizean Poets Society. According to B.P.S. Interim president Adele RamosBDaly, the response has been strong and they are hoping to see a crowd.

?The primary focus really is to showcase the wealth of talent that?s here in Belize. People don?t really appreciate poetry as much as they do other art forms, so what we?re going to be showing them tomorrow night is that poetry is really a wonderful art form and it?s not just about reciting the poem, but it?s about marrying poetry with dramatic performances, with dancing, with singing and you get an explosive product when you do that.?
?Actually the tickets have been going fairly well. Not so much with the outlets as with the actual members, because each member who attended a meting that we had some weeks ago got tickets to sell, and so those have been moving fairly well, but the ones at the outlet are going a little bit slower, but we hope that by the end of tomorrow night that they will all be sold.?
?We do have a full line up of poets, but we are also integrating dancers, musicians into the whole show. We have people like Leroy Cayetano who will be performing Drums of my Fathers, Carrie Fairweather will be doing a poem My Son, and both of these performances integrate drumming. Miss Fairweather?s integrate dance, so Rosita Balthazar will be dancing while she performs her poem.?
The Lik It Festival gets underway from eight on Friday night. Admission is ten dollars adults, five dollars per child. Tickets can be purchased at the Bliss box office, Venus Photos and records, Stones Muzic, CY’s Music, Mail Boxes Etc., and the Putt Putt Bar and Grill.
