D.P.P. says there is enough to warrant an investigation on the immigration

Elvin Penner

The P.U.P. has come out with legal guns blazing and former Minister of State Elvin Penner locked firmly in the crosshairs. There is some urgency in the matter, because the matter for which the Party wants charges brought against Penner is a summary offence. That means that criminal proceedings must be initiated within six months, and in the case of Penner, by March 2014. Penner was relieved of his official portfolio on September nineteenth, 2013. Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, the country’s top prosecutor was a guest on Open Your Eyes this morning and dealt with several pressing issues…first and foremost her feelings on the Elvin Penner scenario – more specifically, to investigate, or not to investigate.

Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, Director of Public Prosecutions

“I think that there is sufficient to warrant an investigation. I cannot say at the end of the day what is going to be available to us, and what charges could possibly be brought based on what is made available to us. But at the very least, from what has been said publicly, there needs to be some sort of investigation. And we can’t say at the outset that no criminal charges can be laid if there’s no investigation. How would we be able to make a reasoned decision as to whether charges can be laid if there is no investigation being done?”

“Now just to update on this situation, the People’s United Party at the end of last week, and in fact it became public today, has issued a letter to the Commissioner of Police in fact giving them seven days to initiate the investigation into former Minister of State Elvin Penner. Could you comment on that particular release?”

Cheryl-Lynn Vidal

“Yes I did receive a letter. It was copied to the director. I read it yesterday. And I will wait to see what the Commissioner’s response is going to be on that.”

  1. Ali BaBarrow, leads 40, against the rest of Belize says:

No problem, all the government records are updated.

No foxes in the hen house, and no hens, all clean.

Now is the time to get the problems resolved, every hour of record cleaning means one less week in prison.

Only lazy thieves don’t cover their tracks when a golden opportunity like this happens.

good to hear they did that. starting to wonder. Half a year has gone by.

Things go slow in Belize, but the Belizean thieves are busy, going to church and stealing on Sunday is the sign of hardworking thieves who deserve to be on cabinet, they earned it.
