Fonseca resigns as P.U.P. secretary general
Embattled former Belize City Mayor David Fonseca is in the headlines again tonight following reports that he has resigned from his post as Secretary General of the People’s United Party. P.U.P. officials confirmed to News Five today that Fonseca made the announcement privately in a party meeting, but has yet to officially submit his intentions in writing. According to P.U.P. P.R. point-man Yasser Musa, no one has been tapped to fill the vacancy, but an appointment is expected imminently as the party prepares for political conventions scheduled for June. Fonseca assumed the role as secretary general following his party’s defeat at the polls in the municipal elections. But Fonseca soon came under heavy fire after the new Belize City Council revealed that he misappropriated more than four hundred thousand dollars of taxpayers’ monies.
