A second prisoner who police claimed eluded the long arms of the law is also back in police custody. Twenty-three year old Sherman Rodney handed himself to police this afternoon accompanied by the Ombudsman. While police claim that Rodney had escaped from the K.H.M.H., Rodney and his mother, Florence Horne claim that after receiving treatment for injuries to the arm, he simply walked out of the K.H.M.H. because he had not been booked by the police for a robbery which police believed he was involved in. Horne told News Five today that her son had been brutalized by the police and that she has filed a report with the Ombudsman because she fears for the life of his son.

“He walked out, the police were right there. When I gone to the hospital, my son walked out and the police mi deh ina ih phone, di play game ina ih phone or the text or something. He called me and I went there; I neva deh nowhere far. And dah walk he walk out; he neva run out. He never detained. Ih name noh even ina di log book weh deh yah. The robbery dehn say happen two a.m., he was locked down from twelve out from di park weh dehn mi have big bash di Friday. So how could he rob anybody?  He di tell me weh dehn tell ahn is that dehn wah beat ahn again when ih come back. He say he tell dehn fi put the gun dah ih head fi shoot ahn, fi kill ahn. I tell dehn if unu kill my pikney unu way have to kill me too because he di tell dehn fi kill ahn because tired ah dehn di beat ahn and ih hand swell up. Dehn lone di chance ahn.  When dehn beat and then the police dehn put ahn ina di cell, dehn tell the man dehn fi…unu kill this; dah one dog gone along. So he neva want that happen to ahn when ih go back so that’s why he walk. Ih mi feel like he free because ih got all ih things dehn. Ih mi think ih free so ih come out.”
