Man gets 10 years for robbery

Ashton Grant

Tanya McNab, a Belize City resident, was robbed at knife point in December 2012 by a man who stole her handbag valued at two thousand dollars. Her bag contained her equally expensive two thousand, five hundred dollar phone and other personal items. But ultimately it was the phone that assisted in the capture of her attacker. He was tracked down using the I-Cloud program, which led her and the police to Princess Margaret Drive and then to Gentle Avenue. There police nabbed twenty-three year old Ashton Grant, who police found in possession of NcNab’s cell phone. This morning, Grants’ trial began before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. It took two hours to complete; Grant was found guilty of robbery and sentenced to ten years imprisonment since he has a previous conviction for burglary. In mitigation, Grant begged the court for mercy saying that he is the father of a girl who he has to care for. In trial, McNab took the stand testifying that as she parked her vehicle, she was approached by a man who held her up at knife point. McNab initially resisted but then gave in and released her bag to her attacker.

I find it strange that for a petty robbery they’s give this man 10 years so he can learn in jail how to be real hardcore criminal. I guess that’s how the law’s are set up, send the criminals in with a Associates in theft and they come out with a Masters in Murder.
