Family says contract is a stepping stone in McCauley’s career
While the Belmopan Bandits, the Football Federation of Belize and his teammates on the Belize National Selection celebrate the success of one of their own, Deon’s father, David ‘Manu’ McCauley, himself an established local athlete, says that accomplishment is a mere stepping stone in his son’s career.

“It’s a great feeling, a feeling that was, you know, looked at a long time ago because Deon had been proving himself time and time again. Well this is just a stepping stone, I mean to say, really Deon needs to be in Europe and that’s his goal. But it’s a great feeling to know that he’s signed an international contract, you know.”

“When were you made aware of this small success in his long path ahead?”
David ‘Manu’ McCauley
“Well, on Monday Deon and I were communicating back and forth through texts and he assured me that the signing was going to happen on Monday and that’s when I really get the sense that he really did sign on to an international team.”

“And what was that feeling? Did you share that with your friends and family, that you were able to confirm that your son is now a member of the Atlanta Silverbacks?”
David ‘Manu’ McCauley
“Well, it didn’t strike me so much because it’s a hush-hush thing and I believe that the country should have known that he would have taken that trip out there to get signed up but it’s a great feeling to know that Deon has made that move. As he said, we are starting from the bottom coming to the top and I want the whole country to know that Deon has done something that no player in Belize has done in a long time.”
According to Manu, Deon is destined for the largest stage in world soccer. McCauley commences training with the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday. There is no schedule as yet when his first game with the team will be played.
Proud father with good reason!
