13 year old Earl Flores clinging to life following hit & run

Another family from the Belize District is at the K.H.M.H. tonight, praying that thirteen year old Earl Ishmael Flores will hold on to life. Flores is from the small community of Buttercup just outside Burrell Boom, and on Sunday afternoon he was knocked down near his home by a vehicle which did not stop, leaving the young boy bleeding and unconscious on the side of the road. His mother was at home when a friend came to tell her that there was what looked like a body on the side of the road. Like any normal Belizean, she went to investigate, but could not have predicted that it was her son who lay there critically injured. Flores was rushed to the K.H.M.H. where he lies in a coma, and doctors say it could go either way.

“He midi bleed….his face injured and his brain damaged, so he deh in a coma at this moment, so the doctor told us that he is like a fifty/fifty chance, and the vehicle that knock him just knock him and leave him there.”

“He actually has liquid in both lungs. On Sunday when they brought him in they said that it could go to pneumonia which occurred throughout the week. Today when we spoke to the doctor he said that one of the lungs is clearing up and the other is coming along very good. The swelling on the brain, we can only give it time in regards to the swelling. Like my aunt said it’s fifty/fifty and we just need to pray.”

“Yes he did. It’s more his face, his teeth, his nose and the side of his head…and the brain with the swelling, and they did say they saw a bit of bleeding on the brain.”

“I just deh seh that the person who did it, please come forward…please. We will not do them anything, because maybe they feel that we’re going to do them something but we don’t have anything to do to them. Just please come forward and show your face and say it’s me that knocked down your child and I’m so sorry, and if any problems…cause we have done two CAT scans and you know…it’s a bill that I don’t know if I can do this.”

Flores’ family says that to their knowledge one person has come forward to provide an eyewitness account, and Burrell Boom Police are currently following that lead.
