VIP says U.D.P. Cayo South standard bearer, Ralph Huang, treasonous

U.D.P. Cayo South standard bearer Ralph Huang, who was recently elected by voters in that constituency, has reportedly admitted to receiving financial contributions from a foreign business interest that has been red-flagged by the Central Bank of Belize.  According to a release issued by Vision Inspired by the People, Huang’s campaign, leading up to a political convention held earlier this month, was funded by Lord Neil Gibson. VIP says that Huang’s actions are treasonous.

“It is a very dangerous precedence that has been now set where Mr. Huang has admitted on national media that he did receive funding for his campaign from this Mr. Lord Neil Gibson.  This is, we’ve always known that from time to time you hear these rumors of foreign campaign sourcing, finance sourcing to both parties but now we have an admittance and when we see and we looked and we searched as best as we can the source of this funding, we see that Mr. Gibson, one of his companies has been red-flagged by the Central Bank of Belize.  We know that it is some sort of an investment company.  We see him profiling with high ranking U.D.P. ministers and connected persons, politically exposed persons and we think that this precedence is really, really going to have serious repercussions down the road in upcoming elections and also future because this is now the candidate that will represent and could very well be elected to the next government, or at least as a representative if his party does not win.  And we’re calling on the U.D.P. and the P.U.P. that it is high time that the people demand that both parties disclose their source of campaign financing because the VIP has been saying this for the last fourteen years and not just saying it but walking the walk of campaign finance disclosure because it is the very seed of corruption in the political arena. We have seen in social media the faces of ministers in the presence of this Neil Gibson and Huang and we can only assume that there are others being financed by this gentleman and we don’t even know the source of his funding.  Where is his money coming from because he’s already been red-flagged which makes you wonder well what kind of money are we looking at?  Is it laundered, what kind of money is it?  Is it clean and how is it coming into the country and what is our FIU doing or are they just turning a blind eye to this?  The truth is we cry shame on the U.D.P. for allowing such a thing to transpire but we cry more shame on the people of Cayo South who voted for him because they have put this whole country in a very critical position.”

VIP reiterates its call for the passage of legislation for the registration of political parties, as well as the regulation of campaign financing.
