Returned fugitive sentenced, says Oprah made him a victim
If you are among the many Belizean fans of the Oprah Winfrey Show, then you know all too well the story of Niles Scott, the accused child molester turned over to U.S. authorities by two Belize City women. They got a fifty thousand U.S. dollar reward for their trouble, and this week, Scott got his sentence. The Cleveland man was given four consecutive life terms for the kidnapping and rape of his fifteen year old niece. That’s right, four life sentences. Scott is reported to have claimed during the sentencing that he is the real victim, unable to get a fair trial because, “when she had me forecast on her show as a pedophile, as a rapist before trial, that really hurt me.” Scott tried to evade prosecution by fleeing to Belize, taking a room in a guest house right down the street from the U.S. Embassy and working as a taxi and tour operator at the Tourism Village. Belizeans Thelma Palacio and Patricia Waight recognised his photo when Oprah broadcast it as part of her campaign to bring fugitive child molesters to justice.
