B.D.F. soldier in coma following fall from truck
A soldier of the Belize Defence Force remains unconscious tonight following a traffic incident on Tuesday in the Cayo District. According to a B.D.F. spokesman, around eight-twenty that morning Corporal Justo Cho was among a group of soldiers who were being transported by truck from Camp Belizario to go on patrol. Reports are that as the army’s Dodge Ram made a right turn onto the Western Highway two of the soldiers fell out of the truck’s pan. Cho, who was seated close to the end of the vehicle, apparently landed on his head and suffered severe injuries, including a cracked skull and internal bleeding; while the other soldier was only hurt superficially. Because of Cho’s condition, doctors had to induce a coma to allow the swelling to go down and he remains on a ventilator at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Meanwhile, the B.D.F. is investigating the incident.
