Belmopan Council confirms political motive for firing

The Belmopan City Council has responded to reports on this newscast of political victimisation in the nation’s capital. Today, in a three sentence press release the council has essentially confirmed those charges, stating: “Mr. Vincent Pascascio, Valuation Officer, is presently on administrative leave with benefits because of his active public campaigning for the People’s United Party. Because of this, the council has very serious doubts about his ability to function in the new environment. The situation is presently under review, but no final action will be taken without due process.”

It should be noted that there are no legal prohibitions against city employees campaigning for the party or candidates of their choice. Several city workers have openly campaigned for the United Democratic Party.
