Burrell Boom Man convicted for drug trafficking

Twenty-seven-year-old Andy Alford, a resident of Burrell Boom, was convicted of drug trafficking at the conclusion of his trial before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith.  Alford, who was unrepresented, was charged with drug trafficking of one hundred and thirty-three grams of cannabis. The bust was made by police officers from the Burrell Boom area, who found the bag of weed hidden inside a compartment of his steering wheel inside his maroon van on February twenty-sixth, 2013. During the trial today, the police alleged that Alford was the one who opened the van to allow them to search it. He had the keys and he told them that he was the owner of the vehicle which was parked in front of his home in Burrell Boom. But his defense was that the police planted the weed inside his van and framed him. Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith ordered Alford to pay ten thousand dollars forthwith; in default, five years imprisonment.  By four o’clock this evening, Alford was unable to pay his fine and a warrant was made out for him to serve five years imprisonment, effective today.
