National Song Competition launched

It’s that time again….the National Institute of Culture and History, through the National Celebrations Commission, is launching its annual national song competition. In 2014, however, the commission is for the first time, reaching out to all districts offering workshops prior to live stage performances to the artists and song writers residing in the districts. This all leads up to the national stage competition scheduled for August ninth. Coordinator of the competition, Joseph Stamp Romero, told the media about the new features of the competition.

“For the first time ever, we are doing a launch for the competition because we want to announce to all the districts that national song is coming to their area. So we are looking at Benque, Dangriga, Belize City, Orange Walk to have live competitions there. And the idea is to actually go around to each district and find the best of the best and then bring to Belize City on August night. So we are encouraging people to actually get their CDs on time; gets their CDs produced and making sure that they know that they have to be ready for a live audition, a live performance. One of the biggest things we want to look at is to make sure that people understand that the national song is about developing artists and their performance repertoire. So we are looking at how we can strengthen each area, each district and not just waiting for them to come in. And so the launch is about that; letting them know that workshops will be available in these same areas I mentioned so they can come out and be a part of the workshops. We have Mister Christopher Bradshaw who will be actually moving out with us to the districts, helping them in stage performance; in stage appeal. Most of the categories that we are covering in the workshops will be a part of the competition. So we are expecting them to come out and be a part of that.”
