Orange Walk group organises public awareness forum
With municipal elections just eight days away, one Orange Walk organisation, Belizeans Promoting Active Citizenship, is planning a forum on Tuesday night to encourage members of their community to vote and know their responsibilities as citizens. Scheduled presenters include Senator Godwin Hulse; Belmopan Mayor Anthony Chanona; former Orange Walk mayor Agripina Espejo; and director of Katalyst Belize, Dylan Vernon. According to BelPAC’s Gonzalo Castillo, the idea behind the event is to distribute relevant information to the public.

What we are talking about is being, participating, asking questions, putting your time, your energy into different projects that can be done. And the approach that we are taking is that people can act if they can get information.
?The approach is not only going to be by setting up forums, which is what I am here to promote, but also to go into the classrooms, to go into the neighbourhood, set up actual concrete activities. There?s gonna be like an end product at the end, tackling not only political issues?at the moment we are dealing with political issues because of the municipal elections that are around the corner, but also environmental issues, civic pride issues, patriotism issues, and different things like these.
BelPAC was established in November by a group of ten friends. The public forum takes place Tuesday night at the Crystal Palace in Orange Walk with presentations set to begin at eight.
