Girl Guides do good deeds at Sr. Cecilia Home
The traditional good deed performed by a Boy Scout is to help an elderly pedestrian cross the street. Today the Belizean equivalent of that service was executed many times over by some of our favourite Girl Guides.

This afternoon steel band music filled the Sister Cecilia Home as part of a special programme organised by the Wesley Girl Guides.
According to Guide Leader Joan Tillett, the activity is part of the organisation?s yearly calendar.

?We want them to mix with the older people. For Christmas we went to Rockview, so we decided let?s keep it with the older ones because normally you?ll find people are willing to go to children?s home and other places like that, but very few persons want to come and mix with the older folks. And we need to show them that we still remember them, we still care for them because one day we?ll all grow old as long as we live. So we need to be able to help them to appreciate the older people, do what they can for them so that in return others will do for them.?
Organisers say they hope the young women will leave with a deeper appreciation for the elderly.

?Some of them stayed outside, but those who have been there before could assure them that there is nothing wrong in coming, let?s come in and do what we have to do. Some of them were quite excited about coming because they want a chance to show what they can do.?
The thirty-two Girl Guides were joined today by their peers in the Wesley College Steel Band, who used the event as preparation for a fundraising concert to be held later this month.

?We didn?t really come up with an actual song list for this programme; we?re using this as part of our preparation for the concert, so we?re gonna use the song list from the concert mainly. But some of it will be … things like Bob Marley?s ?Jammin?; ?La Tortura?; Punta piece, ?Ah Wah Married to Ah? things like that. We have variety because actually the concert will be called ?Pan Potpourri?, so you understand the variety that we will be putting into it.?
As part of the Guides’ visit to the Sister Cecilia Home, the students also presented the facility with a donation of fruits and toiletries.
