Bad driving, cussing Justice leads to reporter’s arrest

A Belize City journalist has been arraigned in Magistrate’s Court for traffic offences and–you won’t believe this one–cussing out a Supreme Court judge. Godwin Haylock, a reporter for the Guardian newspaper, appeared before Magistrate Harry Hulett this afternoon where he was charged with driving without due care and attention, failure to conform to a traffic sign, and use of insulting words against Justice Michelle Arana. Haylock pled not guilty and was granted bail of one thousand dollars and ordered to reappear in court on March tenth. According to court reports, on November twenty-eighth Haylock was driving his car, without license plates, when police say he failed to yield the right of way near the Belcan Roundabout. It seems Haylock became impatient when Justice Arana, who was driving the vehicle in front of him, did not move fast enough. The two allegedly got into a confrontation during which Haylock let loose with some choice words that we cannot repeat on this newscast.
