Saragoza walks as key witness is a no-show

Story PictureFreedom may have been short-lived for the young men accused of jacking Brad’s but in the Supreme Court today another defendant walked unencumbered down the steps, just as if he had used a get out of jail free card.” This morning Javier Saragoza appeared before Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh for what should have been the start of his attempted murder and dangerous harm trial. But instead of a hearing, Saragoza received his walking papers when prosecutor Kamar Henry told the court that the Crown will not prosecute due to the unavailability of witnesses. The charges against Saragoza arose out of an incident on December fourth, 2004, in which it was alleged that he instigated a fight with Moises Flores; a clash that ended with Flores being stabbed in the chest. The victim positively identified Saragoza to police as someone he had known for eighteen years. The only problem was that Flores did not show up for court, causing the case to fall apart. Saragoza was defended by attorney Hubert Elrington.
