Godfrey Smith selected as P.U.P.’s national campaign manager

For several weeks it has been reported that former Pickstock area representative, Godfrey Smith, had been selected as the People’s United Party’s national campaign manager. Smith, who is a former minister of government, is tasked with developing campaign strategies going into both municipal and general elections. While confirmation had not been forthcoming, despite numerous queries with the leadership of the party, it was verified today that Smith will comprise a national campaign committee. Contrary to reports in other parts of the media, that committee will not include a former campaign manager, Ralph Fonseca, who has served in that capacity prior to being defeated in Belize Rural Central during the 2008 general elections.

“We have, we’ve put together a, we’re still in the process of being formulated, finalized but we’re putting together a national campaign committee, we’re activating the national campaign committee because we’ve always had a campaign committee. So we’re activating that committee and we’ve asked Godfrey Smith to chair that committee. As you know, the party has regional campaign managers for each of the regions of the country, so they form a part of the core executive of that campaign committee and they will then reach out and include other persons who will form a part of that wider, national campaign committee. And by the way, I don’t know, you reported that Mr. Ralph Fonseca, quite irresponsibly of you, had that this man had somehow been brought back to or was holding some post. I mean, the man is a businessman, he’s working. There’s absolutely no truth to that. I don’t know where you got that. He has not been given any post official or unofficial with the People’s United Party.”

Come on Francis, you and I both know that you denying Ralph’s involvement is not true. You know exactly why Ralph is in the background. You’ve always sit on the fence even in casual conversations when we were in school and you had to make simple childhood decisions. Be careful you don’t divide this party because you lack a “backbone.” Yes, I’m also friends with Godfrey, but the Godfrey I knew back then and I see and hear things about are two different people.
