U.D.P. mayoral candidate injured in freak lighter fire
Reports out of Dangriga are that the United Democratic Party’s mayoral candidate Frank “Pawpa” Mena has injured himself and is currently admitted to ward at the Southern Regional Hospital. We understand that Mena was playing with a lighter when it exploded and set fire to his shirt. Health officials tell News Five that Mena might have to spend as many as five days hospitalised. With nomination day set for Tuesday, we are told this is an unprecedented situation in Belize’s electoral process and officials will spend the weekend researching the available options contained in the law.
