Albert Reid charged for murder of Santana man
Police have formally arrested and charged twenty-four year old Albert Reid for the murder of Santana resident, Maurice ‘Tuko’ Young. Reid was detained at two a.m. on Thursday at a house on Pine Street in Belize City. Sources tell us that police found the murder weapon, a twelve inch knife, hidden in a cement block in an incomplete house used by Reid in Santana village. We are told police also found the rag used to clean the knife partially burned in front of the house. The decomposed body of Young was discovered on Tuesday evening, lying face up in the bushes about twenty feet behind his house. He had a cut wound to the head, and the post-mortem examination concluded that he had been killed on Saturday, at least seventy-two hours before he was found. Police acted swiftly, and less than twenty-four hours after Young’s body was discovered, they were on the hunt for Albert Reid. He was detained, questioned and locked down in Belize City pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions. The directive to charge Reid was given this afternoon.
