Trevor Vernon and his pillowcases filled with shillings

On May nineteenth, a case brought against Minister of State Edmond Castro was thrown out by Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin. The case had been filed by Belize Rural North resident, Trevor Vernon, who claimed that Castro had breached the court of conduct when he received checks from the Belize Airports Authority for his political and personal gain. The matter was struck out on a technicality and Vernon was ordered to pay Castro five thousand dollars. This morning Vernon made a part payment of the costs to Castro’s attorney, Barrow and Company. Like the proverbial ghetto Santa Clause, Vernon came bearing his gifts in old pillow cases…twenty-five hundred dollars worth of shillings.

“Those two pillowcases contain one thousand two hundred and fifty each in small money because we were raising money on Facebook and people came and contributed. They didn’t all bring shillings, but we just wanted the thing to be uniform so we got all shillings. People will take it how they want. It’s just that with friends we literally had to go out and raise pennies, so we were only able to put together twenty-five hundred today. Hopefully within the next week, the way the donations are coming in…a lot of small donations…dollar, five dollars, ten dollars…people literally breaking their piggy banks because they support what they see happening and of course I am happy to have people see this not as something frivolous or trivial but as an important development in our whole system of governance that our ministers have to be held accountable, one way or the other even if we don’t have an Integrity Commission in place, and even if the CJ finds that there are technicalities with the original filing. And my thing is that we’re going to re-file, we’re going to put in a new application as soon as we make the second payment and go forward and see where this takes us.”

Vernon was granted a temporary receipt, since the company will have to count every shilling to make sure it’s all there. He says the final payment will be made next week, but that one might be in nickels, since the pillowcases full of shillings are a little heavy.

I support you sir and all abiding citizens of this country let’s show this thieving pm and gov. That we the people of this country are sick and tired of all the thieving going on in this most corrupt gov.. Every one in Belize donate at least 5 dollars to this man and saldivar plight and pay them in pennies so that the thieves have to do some kind of work for their stolen money.

I would have been nicer if it were a bucket of pennies you delivered to these greedy all for themselves bastards with their out right attack on FREEDOM OF SPEECH. They are using the court to keep folks quiet while they rob the country blind. They don’t want the truth be told. That’s why they keep re-appointing their cronies in the court system to keep with their agenda and not pursue true justice. They can’t convict a soul for murder or any crime, but can upload Barrow’s muzzle on the Belizean people. That’s what they are there for. I blame the BELIZEAN PEOPLE FOR VOTING THEM IN. Barrow and his crowd is 20 times worst than Musa and Fonseca ever was and they are the ones that need to be prosecuted for theft, embezzlement, nepotism, greed, sell out, strong arming, you name it. The first thing the PUP or independents need to do when they get back in is to fire all these justices Starting with DPP Vidal, Cawich and all of them who are just there to uphold Barrow’s agenda and not the Law. Barrow’s way is do as I SAY and not AS I DO!
