Domestic violence lands couple in K.H.M.H.

Tonight, there is little information on the motive behind an incident of domestic violence which has left two persons in critical condition at the K.H.M.H.  Fifty year old Erwin Smith, a resident of Zericote Street, and thirty-three year old Jennifer Salam of a Newtown Barracks address, were discovered early this morning bleeding profusely from multiple knife wounds. Uniformed Police officers responded to the call, but the Domestic Violence Unit has now taken over the investigation and is looking for answers.

Sgt. Martha Rhys, Head, Domestic Violence Unit

“It is understood that the Police got information at about six o’clock this morning that there was an incident of a stabbing at number twenty-four Zericote Street. The Police proceeded to that location, and upon arrival they met a female outside on the ground with an injury to her chest, the left side of her chest below the breast area, and further checks inside the house led to the discovery of a male person whose name we learned to be Erwin Smith, with four injuries, two to the chest area, one to the abdomen and one to his rib cage. Because of the condition the persons were in, they were immediately transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The investigation right now is ongoing as we are unable to have a word with them because of their condition. They are presently in the operating theatre and we’re investigating the matter.”

“Could you tell us a little bit about the scene? Were any weapons found that might have caused the injuries? Have Police been able to determine anything from any of the neighbours or the persons that were in that area?”

Sgt. Martha Rhys

“Well the scene has been processed, yes, and there was a knife found in the house. There was nobody in the area when the Police made checks thereafter because of course they had to take the persons to the hospital because life comes first. The two persons used to be living together, and we all know that when it comes to domestic violence, it could be present relationship or past relationship, so yes we can say that it could have been an incident of domestic violence.”

Police are attempting to connect the dots on what could be a related incident. On Tuesday they received a nine one one call from Erwin Smith, who told them he had received a text that Jennifer Salam had been kidnapped. Police were able at that time to contact Salam, who verified that she was fine.
