Photographic Exhibition launched at the Belize City House of Culture

Twelve women are at the centerpiece of an exhibition that was launched today at the House of Culture by curator Briheda Haylock. The exhibit captures the singular lifetime achievements of the group of women through photographs.  While twelve of the women are featured, twenty-two were nominated and are all included in an accompanying publication called MILESTONE. Duane Moody reports.

A photographic exhibit highlighting some twelve women who have made their imprint in various areas of works was officially launched today at the House of Culture in Belize City. Under the auspices of the Special Envoy for Women and Children, curator Briheda Haylock was given the task to capture the essence of exemplary women in society.

“I had to think something very sophisticated; these are elderly women and something unique too because I wanted to establish myself and my style. You think about them and I was inspired by this book, the quote is inside; that was the main inspiration for the show and I did some research so that helped a lot. I didn’t want it to look like a picture day, so I wanted to make the women look like art and the experience to feel artistic as opposed to watching picture-day photos because these are established women and you have seen their photos in newspaper.”

MILESTONE….although photos of only twelve women are on display in the hall, they were chosen from twenty-two, which included doctors, artists, lawyers, entrepreneurs and journalist.

“I thought to myself that this was some kind of lifetime achievement highlighting women who have achieved a lifetime of different accomplishments. Being one of the women who is displayed on the exhibit is a great honor for me, only twenty-nine; I am the youngest one and I feel honored that my work is being recognized in the country and this will give me the boost to continue to innovate and look at ways that I could continue to meet different needs that appear in the community as it relates to technology and innovation.”
