Parties silent on challenges to voter’s list
You would have thought that the two major political parties would have fought tooth and nail over electoral registration, but today, the appointed date for courtroom challenges to newly registered voters, there was an eerie silence from both P.U.P. and U.D.P. With a few minor exceptions for clerical errors, the voters list for the March first nationwide municipal elections was finalised without so much as a peep. The precise reasons for the lack of the traditional courtroom brawling are not clear, but it is believed that many spurious attempts at registration were headed off by officers of the Elections and Boundaries Department. There are also suspicions that one or both parties may have been lax in doing their homework.
