Robber sentenced to six years in prison
A Belize City fisherman accused of viciously beating another man for his bicycle has been given jail time. Twenty-five year old Eric Martinez was sentenced to a total of six years in prison: five years for robbery and another year for grievous harm. On May tenth, 2005, the victim, Daniel Brooks, reported to police that as he was buying at a shop on Freetown Road, someone approached him from behind and hit him. As he turned around, his attacker continued the assault until both his jaws were broken. Brooks says the perpetrator, later identified as Martinez, then stole his bicycle, fifty dollars in cash, a lighter, and his cigarettes.
