Detained prisoner dies in police custody
A suspect has died while in police custody. Forty-five year old David Gallego of Ladyville had been detained on Monday pending charges of handling stolen goods. On Tuesday morning around six-thirty his three cellmates at the Ladyville Police Station alerted an officer that Gallego was not moving. By seven he was declared dead by Dr. Mario Estradabran. According to police, Gallego was last seen alive around three-thirty a.m. when officers opened the cell to allow one of the prisoners to use the bathroom. The cellmates reported that earlier in the night Gallego had been coughing and throwing up after he ate a sandwich. No signs of violence were found on the body and police do not suspect foul play. Officials are awaiting the results of a post-mortem as part of their investigation.
