Cayo businessman shot in head during robbery
A Cayo businessman is lucky to be alive after he was shot in the head, twice. Unbelievable as it sounds, tonight authorities in San Ignacio tell News Five that just before midnight on Thursday, fifty-six year old Bing Run Lui was at his shop on Far West Street when two men, one armed with a handgun, held him up. According to Bing, the bandits stole his cell phone and chequebook, but then as they fled the area, the gunman fired a number of times in the victim’s direction. Two of the bullets struck the door and ricocheted, striking Bing in the forehead. The victim was rushed to the San Ignacio Hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition. Officials in the west tell us tonight that one person has been detained for questioning.
In more police news from the Cayo District, authorities have launched an internal investigation after a San Ignacio resident was shot by an officer. Reports are that forty-five year old Samuel Simpson is a prime suspect in a string of burglaries in the area. Apparently, Simpson was spotted in town but when cops tried to detain him, he came at them with a knife. Officials did not name the arresting officer who then shot Simpson in the right leg. The injured man was taken to the San Ignacio Hospital where he was treated and released. Cayo cops have since charged Simpson with three counts of burglary, aggravated assault, and drug trafficking.
