Paralysed gunshot victim will receive operation
The family of twenty-three year old Lisa Garoy is hoping that on Monday doctors at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital will be able to perform the spinal surgery that will help the young mother to sit up for the first time in three weeks. Since Cynthia Gentle started appealing for financial assistance to get the medical treatment her daughter needs, the family has received an outpouring of support from people and businesses all across the country. It started on Tuesday afternoon with a two thousand dollar donation from the National Fishermen’s Co-op. That contribution was followed on Wednesday by an appeal on Love FM’s morning talk show that brought in pledges totalling thirteen thousand dollars. Today, we spoke to both Gentle and Garoy who expressed their sincere gratitude for the public’s generosity. In addition, despite the medical prognosis that Lisa Garoy will remain a paraplegic, the family says she has been moving her right leg and toes.
