Cause of horrific and tragic fire still unknown
It’s been two days since the horrific fire on Newtown Barracks gutted two massive wooden buildings and tragically ended the life of twenty-one year old Jacqueline Arteaga. After days of investigation by fire officials, the cause of the fire has still not been determined…all that is known is that the inferno started in the left lower flat of the building in which Arteaga and several other persons lived. Arteaga had three kids: ages two, four and six and was pregnant with a fourth child, but on Wednesday morning, sometime after four a.m., she was trapped inside the upper flat of Kimmie’s Bar. It was not until two hours later that the blaze was extinguished and among the little rubble that was left behind were the charred remains of Arteaga. It is the second such deadly inferno in the city since the start of the year, but even more heart-wrenching is that Arteaga, who had just moved three months ago from Copper Bank in Corozal to live in the City, was planning to move back home before she met her untimely death.
