Texans donate to school, hospital
Two Belizean institutions are tonight better off thanks to the generosity of a group from Houston, Texas. In a ceremony this morning at Stella Maris School, The Word At Work Ministries, led by Reverend Tim Tam, presented the school with a bus to be used for the daily transport of students. Belize City Councillor Yasmin Shoman facilitated the contribution of the new vehicle, which she says will replace a bus the school currently rents, freeing up much needed funds for other purposes. The bus is equipped with a lift for wheelchair bound students.
In its second contribution, Word At Work presented two laparoscopic surgery units to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Tam said that the prevalence of gall bladder disease in the Caribbean prompted his effort to secure the donation of the specialized equipment, which was accepted by Minister Francis Fonseca and K.H.M.H. Chief of Staff, Dr. Curtis Samuels. Dr. Samuels recognised Tam and his Ministry for their long association with the hospital.

?Over the years they have contributed, they have donated different items for the Orthopaedic Surgery Department. And on this occasion, we are very grateful to receive two laparoscopic units for the Surgery Department. It is estimated that these two units are valued approximately in excess of four hundred thousand Belize dollars. And I?d really like to thank Reverend Tim Tam for his donation, for his continued contribution to Belize.?
Tam is organising a delegation of U.S. physicians skilled in laparoscopic surgery to train K.H.M.H. medical staff in the use the new equipment.
